Amethyst crystals are a variation of quartz found as crystal or masses. Its classic purple colour is due to manganese and iron inclusions. Some of the rare varieties of amethyst crystal are almost black. Other varieties are purple/white banded chevron amethyst, and praisolite, which is a green amethyst coloured by minerals inclusion.
