Amulets are magic charms worn by people to protect themselves from negative energies, evil and injury, and also to bring good luck. Together with other kinds of talismans, amulets are becoming very popular today. They are usually crystals, Celtic crosses, or other mystical jewellery worn as a pendant on a necklace or bracelet or hung on a chain dangling from the rear view mirror of automobiles. These so-called “sacred stones” and other engraved talisman are believed to have mystical powers to bring personal protection, success, and prosperity. They are often regarded as transmitters of healing energies and positive vibrations that are thought to promote feelings of peace and tranquillity. The word Talisman is derived from the greek root ‘Teleo’ which means ‘to consecrate’ and it is this act of consecration that gives a talisman its magical powers. Whereas an amulet is naturally endowed with magical properties the talisman must be charged by the person preparing it. The amulet is used for general purposes like protection or good luck the talisman is always prepared for a specific reason.
